Actor-politician quits BJP over ‘hate speech inaction’

KOLKATA: Actor-turned-politician
Subhadra Mukherjee resigned from BJP in the aftermath of the Delhi violence.

Mukherjee, who joined the party in 2013, said it was not possible for her to be in the same party with functionaries like
Kapil Mishra and
Anurag Thakur, both of whom raised “goli maaro” (shoot them) slogans.

The actor, who sent her resignation to Bengal BJP chief
Dilip Ghosh, said she joined the party with “hopes and optimism”, but was disillusioned following recent developments.

Mukherjee said, that while she was in favour of
CAA, she did not approve of the way the party pressed ahead with it.

She added that she could not identify with a party that treated people on the basis of religion and not as fellow humans.
