Coronavirus: Free tests at private labs for EWS, those covered under PMJAY scheme, says SC

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that the benefit of free coronavirus testing in private labs is only for Economically Weaker Sections and for those covered by Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme.

Tamil Nadu and Arunachal Pradesh extended the lockdown to rein in the coronavirus pandemic till April 30. Odisha, Punjab, Maharashtra, Telangana, West Bengal and Karnataka have also extended the lockdown.

The lockdown ends at midnight on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 10 am tomorrow and is expected to announce if the lockdown will be extended.

India has so far reported 9,352 coronavirus cases and 324 deaths.

Globally, the coronavirus has infected nearly 18.5 lakh patients and killed more than 1,14,000, according to an estimate by Johns Hopkins University.
