Coronavirus in Kerala: Six more test positive, number of cases rises to 15; CM orders total shutdown

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala government has come out with massive restrictions and regulations to check the spread of
Covid-19 in the state. In all 15 cases have been reported from the state and the affected persons have been put under isolation wards of different hospitals. Three Wuhan returned students, who were tested positive for the virus were discharged earlier.

All educational institutions in the state have been closed till March 31. However, the examinations will be held as scheduled. This will be applicable for the CBSE and ICSE schools in the state, said chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, after the special cabinet meeting convened here on Tuesday.

Among the 12 cases, four new cases have been reported from Kottayam and two from Pathanamthitta. The people who had gone to pick the three people who had come from Italy have been tested positive in addition to the parents of the person. They have been admitted to the isolation ward of Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

In Pathanamthitta, the cases have been reported from the people who had come into close contact with the Italy returnees. They have been isolated at a hospital in Kozhancherry. A two-year-old kid has been reported to be in a high risk category.

A three-year-old kid who was tested positive in Ernakulam on Monday is stable and the test results of the parents of the kid are awaited. The family had also returned from Italy recentally.

The chief minister said the state needs the highest precaution to avoid the spread of the virus and hence all mass gatherings should be avoided. All temples, mosques and churches should avoid people from gathering for the festivals and other rituals. All government public functions have been cancelled till March 31. All cinema halls have been asked to shut down till the month end. People should avoid all public gatherings to prevent the spread of the virus, he added.

The chief minister has asked all the tuition classes, entrance coaching centres and other special classes to close down till March 31.
