Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Tablighi Jamaat member dies in Villupuram hospital

CHENNAI: A 51-year-old
Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) member, who was admitted to
Villupuram Medical College
Hospital, died of Covid-19 on Saturday, district collector said in a statement. This takes the Covid-19 death toll in
Tamil Nadu to two.

The man had been isolated in the hospital since April 1. This is the third death recorded among the TJ delegation, including two men who died in hospitals in Delhi.

On Friday, Salem recorded the death of a man with a travel history to Delhi during March 21 to 23. Quoting family members, health officials said he was not a TJ member. It is yet to be ascertained if the death was due to Covid-19.

Until Friday, the Tamil Nadu government recorded 364 Covid-19 cases among the 1,130 Tablighi Jamaat members who returned to the state after attending a three-day conference in New Delhi from March 21. Among the 400 who remained, there have been two deaths, including one from Sirkali in Nagapattinam district and another from Namakkal. The total number of Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu was 411 on Friday evening.
