Coronavirus: Number of cases rise to 24,942, toll reaches 779

The total number of coronavirus cases in India reached 24,942 on Saturday evening and the toll rose to 779, the health ministry’s data showed. Congress President Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, warning him against ignoring the crisis in micro, small and medium enterprises. She made several suggestions to help the MSME sector.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath said no public gatherings will be allowed in the state till June 30.

Meanwhile, the Centre has issued an order relaxing lockdown guidelines to allow the functioning of select shops within and outside municipal areas. However, the exemptions will not apply to the shops in malls, coronavirus hotspots and containment zones.

Globally, Covid-19 has infected more than 28.2 lakh people and caused over 1.97 lakh deaths in 185 countries or regions.
