Coronavirus Pandemic LIVE Updates: Telangana today reported a fresh spike of 66 cases, taking the total in the state to 562. The state government has decided to collect data of people buying medicines for fever and sore throat from medical stores. At a review meeting on Covid-19 situation in the state, Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao asked officials to gather information about those who recently purchased such medicines. The direction assumes significance in the wake of finding by the authorities that the majority of those tested positive for Covid-19 and undergoing treatment were asymptomatic.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in Mumbai’s Dharavi, one of the largest slums in Asia, today crossed the one hundred-mark after it reported 15 new cases today. Its toll now stands at 101, with 10 deaths. The government today said the national doubling rate of the coronavirus infections has gone up to six days on average as compared to the three days before the nationwide lockdown was imposed to prevent the virus’s spread. Ministry of Health Joint Secretary Lav Agrawal said there are 19 states where the doubling rate is less than the national rate. India has reported 1,007 new COVID-19 cases and 23 deaths in the last 24 hours and Agarwal said the ratio between recovered patients and deaths stands at 80:20 in India, which is higher than that in several other nations. “We have been witnessing average growth factor at 1.2 since April 1, which stood at 2.1 (average) between March 15-31,” he said. “Hence, there is 40% decline in average growth factor even as we increased testings.”

Coronavirus cases in Haryana rose to 221 today, with Nuh and Panchkula districts reporting fresh cases. While worst-hit Nuh reported five cases, Panchkula, which has seen a surge after nine members of a family earlier tested positive, reported two more cases, according to the state’s health department bulletin. India today breached the 13,000-mark with 13,387 Covid-19 cases while the death toll surged to 437. Of these, 11,201 are active cases and 1,748 are cured. The numbers come amid an extended lockdown in the country till May 3 as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who sought the cooperation of Indians to defeat the pandemic.

The novel coronavirus has infected ove 2 million people globally and led to more than 1, 40,000 deaths. The confirmed coronavirus death toll in the United States reached 32,917 on Thursday, marking an increase of 4,491 deaths in the past 24 hours, by far the highest daily toll in the pandemic so far.

But the figure likely includes “probable” deaths related to Covid-19, which were not previously included.

This week, New York City announced it would add 3,778 “probable” coronavirus deaths to its toll. As of Thursday night, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had recorded 31,071 coronavirus deaths, including 4,141 “probable” virus deaths.

The US has the highest death toll in the world, followed by Italy with 22,170 dead although its population is just a fifth of that of the US.

Spain has recorded 19,130 deaths, followed by France with 17,920. More than 667,800 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the United States, which has seen a record number of deaths over the past two days.

New York, the epicenter of the country’s COVID-19 epidemic, has suffered more than 12,000 deaths across the state alone.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump unveiled plans Thursday evening to reopen the US economy, allowing each state’s governor “to take a phased deliberate approach to reopening their individual states.”
