Coronavirus (COVID-19) Tracker: The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus pandemic in India neared 13,000 while the death toll rose to 420 on Thursday, as per the latest update from the Union Health Ministry. Of the total cases, 1,514 people have been treated and discharged so far. Maharashtra has been the worst affected, with over 3,000 cases and 194 deaths, followed by Delhi with 1578 infections and 32 deaths. Tamil Nadu, with the third most number of infections, reported 62 recoveries in a day. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh witnessed the highest surge among any other state, with the total number of cases at 1,120. Kerala, which has flattened the curve, reported 27 more recoveries.
286 new COVID-19 cases found in Maharashtra, taking tally to; death toll up to 194 with 7 more fatalities:
The lockdown has now been extended till May 3 as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. As many as 170 districts have been identified by the government as COVID-19 ‘hotspots’ or ‘red zones’ and another 207 districts as ‘potential hotspots’. The MHA Wednesday announced that the lockdown would be relaxed from April 20 in some areas like the rural and agriculture sector, manufacturing in SEZs and industrial zones, e-commerce and for MNREGA work. However, it said that strict restrictions would continue in the containment zones across the country.
With cases of novel coronavirus increasing in different areas across the country, here is a state-wise list of cases and deaths:
Andhra Pradesh: 534 cases, 14 deaths
The number of coronavirus cases rose to 534 Thursday in Andhra Pradesh, including 14 deaths and the 20 people who have recovered so far.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands: 11 cases
A total of 11 persons have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus, all of whom have been treated and discharged.
Arunachal Pradesh: 1 case
Arunachal Pradesh has reported one COVID-19 case.
Assam: 34 cases, 1 death
Assam has reported 34 cases of coronavirus, including 1 death till date.
Bihar: 72 cases, 1 death
Four more people test positive for COVID-19 in Bihar as the total number of cases in the state rises to 74, including one death and the 37 who have recovered.
In Chandigarh, 21 people have contracted coronavirus so far, out of whom seven have recovered. Embarking on an ambitious project, CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH) on Thursday said it has initiated whole genome sequencing of the novel coronavirus SARS-Cov-2.
Chhattisgarh: 33 cases
A total of 33 cases of coronavirus have been reported from Chhattisgarh. 23 among the affected have already recovered.
Delhi: 1,640 cases, 38 deaths
The total number of novel coronavirus cases in the national capital on Thursday climbed to 1,640, with 62 fresh cases and six deaths being reported in a day, according to Delhi government authorities. Of the total cases, 1,080 are those who have been brought to facilities through special operations, the same as on Wednesday. With six more fatalities reported, the death toll from COVID-19 in Delhi has jumped to 38.
Goa: 7 cases
Seven cases of COVID-19 have been reported from Goa so far out of which six people have been treated and discharged. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had last week announced that the state government will conduct a door-to-door survey across the state in which enumerators will go to people and check whether they are experiencing symptoms similar to that of COVID-19 and their travel history.
Gujarat: 871 cases, 36 deaths
The number of people who contracted coronavirus in Gujarat has risen to 871, out of whom 36 have died and 64 have recovered. The municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Rajkot have made it compulsory for citizens to wear masks in public places, with effect from 6 am on April 13. Violation of the order will follow a penalty up to Rs 5,000 or imprisonment up to 3 years.
Haryana: 213 cases, 3 deaths
With nine members of a family from Panchkula testing positive for coronavirus, the total number of cases in Haryana rose to 213, including 3 deaths and 62 recoveries.
Himachal Pradesh: 35 cases, 2 death
Till date, 35 confirmed COVID-19 cases including two deaths and 16 recoveries has been reported from Himachal Pradesh.
Jammu and Kashmir: 314 cases, 4 deaths
The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has a total of 314 cases so far out of which 272 are active cases, four have died while 38 people have been treated and recovered.
Jharkhand: 28 cases, 2 deaths
Jharkhand has reported 28 coronavirus cases including two deaths so far.
Karnataka: 315 cases, 13 deaths
As many as 34 new infections were reported in Karnataka today. The state has reported 315 cases of coronavirus and 13 deaths so far. In Karnataka, the number of locally transmitted Covid-19 cases have surpassed those linked to foreign returnees and their contacts for the first time after 33 cases with no foreign travel history were recorded since April 10.
Kerala: 394 cases, 2 deaths
Kerala has reported 394 cases of coronavirus and 2 deaths so far. Seven fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported on Thursday, taking the total number of active cases to 147 in the state,even as over 88,000 people are under observation. Kerala, which has flattened the curve, reported 27 more recoveries. Unlike other states, its death rate has been unusually low as only two people have died so far.
Ladakh: 18 cases
There are 18 cases of coronavirus in Ladakh. 14 patients have already recovered.
Madhya Pradesh: 1,120 cases, 53 deaths
The number of coronavirus positive cases in Madhya Pradesh increased by 182 to 1,120 cases Thursday, including 55 deaths so far.
Maharashtra: 3,202 cases, 194 deaths
Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of COVID-19 cases across the country with the latest toll recorded as 3,202 infections. “286 new COVID-19 cases found in Maharashtra, takin tally to 3,202; death toll up to 194 with 7 more fatalities,” a Health official said.
Manipur: 2 cases
Two cases of novel coronavirus have been reported from Manipur out of which one patient has recovered.
Mizoram: 1 case
Mizoram has one confirmed case of COVID-19.
Nagaland: 1 case
A man from Nagaland tested positive for novel coronavirus on Monday, the first case to be reported from the state, an official said. The man with coronavirus-like symptoms was admitted to a hospital in Assam’s Guwahati, where he tested positive for COVID-19, the official said. Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also tweeted that a private hospital in Dimapur referred a patient to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital after he was found with symptoms of COVID-19. He has tested positive and is undergoing treatment.
Odisha: 60 cases, 1 death
Odisha has a relatively low coronavirus-positive case load at 60 cases and has reported one death so far. The Odisha government on Thursday decided to share “vital information” with the residents, including test results of suspected cases and steps being taken to tackle the crisis. Of the 60 COVID-19 cases in Odisha so far, 46 have been reported from the state capital.
Puducherry: 7 cases
The union territory of Puducherry has seven cases of coronavirus of which one person has recovered.
Punjab: 186 cases, 14 deaths
Punjab has reported 226 cases of COVID-19 and 13 deaths. 27 people have been treated and discharged in the state so far. To ramp up the COVID -19 testing in the state, Government Medical Colleges in Patiala and Amritsar are set to conduct pool testing of samples in Punjab. With a lone case reported from Patiala district Wednesday, the total case count has reached 186.
Rajasthan: 1,104 cases, 11 deaths
The total number of coronavirus cases in Rajasthan is has crossed the 1000-mark. Rajasthan on Thursday reported 28 fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the state’s virus tally to 1,104, officials said. Of the new cases, 11 each are from Tonk and Jodhpur, 2 each from Jhunjhunu and Kota and one each from Bikaner and Ajmer.
Tamil Nadu: 1,267 cases, 15 deaths
Tamil Nadu has 1,267 cases of coronavirus including 15 deaths. On Thursday, the state reported a fresh COVID-19 death while 25 more people tested positive for the disease, taking the toll due to it to 15 and total cases to 1,267, Chief Minister K Palaniswami said. As many as 180 people have been discharged so far, as against the 118 on Wednesday, he said. The state also recorded 62 recoveries in a day. Palaniswami said the lower number of fresh cases showed the government was containing the spread of the contagion.
Telangana: 700 cases, 18 deaths
There are 700 COVID-19 cases in Telangana, including 18 deaths and 186 recoveries. The state recorded the most number of recoveries in a day at 69, and no deaths on Thursday. The Telangana Cabinet, which would meet on April 19, is expected to discuss COVID-19 containment measures and whether to continue lockdown in the state strictly, as it is being implemented now, till May 3, or to give some concessions in line with the Centre’s thinking.
Tripura: 2 cases
There are two COVID-19 cases in Tripura including the one person who has recovered.
Uttarakhand: 37 cases
Thirty seven cases have been reported in the state so far out of which nine people have recovered.
Uttar Pradesh: 773 cases, 13 deaths
Uttar Pradesh reported 46 fresh coronavirus cases and two fatalities on Thursday, taking the total number of COVID-19 patients to 773 and the death toll in the state to 13. As many as 69 people have recovered from the disease.
West Bengal: 231 cases, 10 deaths
Three more people die from COVID-19 in West Bengal fatalities rise to 10. There are at least 231 cases of coronavirus, inlcluding 42 recoveries in the state.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases has crossed 2 million, including over 136,000 fatalities, with Europe accounting for more than two-thirds of the deaths. Europe has reported 88,716 deaths, while the United States has the single highest toll at 26,950, followed by Italy (21,645), Spain (18,579) and France (17,167).
