Destination Weddings in Uttarakhand See Advance Bookings During Wedding Season
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal, people from across India and abroad are flocking to Uttarakhand for destination weddings. This has generated employment opportunities for locals. The government is providing all possible support to promote Uttarakhand as a wedding destination. “Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is ready to welcome you,” said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Rudraprayag: Triyuginarayan Temple, the sacred wedding site of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is emerging as a global wedding destination. Couples from India and abroad are arriving to get married according to ancient Sanatan traditions. During the wedding season, over 100 weddings take place here every month.
PM Modi has repeatedly promoted Uttarakhand as a prime destination for weddings, and the impact is evident at Triyuginarayan Temple. The influx of weddings has boosted business for hoteliers, priests, wedding planners, event teams, and traditional musicians like dhol-damau players.
500 Weddings in 2025 So Far
Wedding planner Ranjana Rawat shared that between May 7 and 9, Dr. Prachi, an Indian-origin doctor working in Singapore, will arrive for her wedding at the temple. She has already booked the GMVN TRH guesthouse. Rawat revealed that around 500 weddings have already taken place by April 2025, compared to 600 in all of 2024. Notable personalities who have tied the knot here include an ISRO scientist, actress Chitra Shukla, Kavita Kaushik, Nikita Sharma, singer Hansraj Raghuwanshi, YouTuber Adarsh Suyal, and Garhwali folk singer Saurabh Maithani.
Mandatory Registration
Priest Sachchidanand Panchpuri explained that weddings at the temple follow Vedic traditions and require prior registration. The ceremonies must be conducted in the presence of parents or guardians. A sacred fire altar has been set up in the temple complex for the saat pheras (seven vows), followed by the pag phera (circumambulation) around the eternal flame. Other wedding events are held at nearby hotels and resorts. Local priests also conduct ceremonies in hotels up to Sitapur, with fixed dakshina (donation) rates.
Significance of Triyuginarayan Temple
Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple is believed to be the site where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. Lord Vishnu himself performed the role of Parvati’s brother (the one who gives her away). The temple complex houses an eternal sacred flame, said to be the same fire around which Shiva and Parvati took their vows. The temple’s architecture resembles that of Kedarnath Temple.
