In Hindu river theology, river confluences (Prayags) possess immense spiritual purification virtue. The Panch Prayag consists of the five sacred confluences along the Alaknanda River in Garhwal before it merges with the Bhagirathi at Devprayag to emerge as the Holy River Ganga. Descending down the Himalayas from Vishnuprayag through Nandaprayag, Karnaprayag, and Rudraprayag to Devprayag, each confluence is sanctified by ancient temples and mythological events.
