Sacred Overview & Architectural Heritage

Budha Kedar Temple sits at the sacred confluence of the Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga rivers in Tehri Garhwal. In Puranic mythology, it is believed that the Pandavas met Sage Agastya here on their quest to seek Lord Shiva’s expiation for the sins of the Mahabharata war. Shiva originally manifested here as an elderly man (Budha) before diving underground. The temple houses an unusually massive natural stone lingam that bears natural marks resembling the footprints of Bhima.
