The state government of Uttarakhand, in its gazette notification dated June 8, 2020, announced that the Governor had given her assent to declare Bhararisen (Gairsain) in the Chamoli district as the summer capital of the state. This announcement came three months after Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s surprise declaration during his budgetary speech on March 4, 2020, at the budget session held in Gairsain. The hill town, situated approximately 260 kilometers from Dehradun, has now been officially recognized as Uttarakhand’s summer capital.
