Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, is getting ready with 4000 new heritage tourist guides in coming weeks. The Tourism Department of Uttarakhand is soon launching the Harshil Tour Package in collaboration with GMVN (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam).

This announcement was made today by Ms. Poonam Chand, the Additional Director of the Tourism Department of Uttarakhand, in Harshil during the inauguration ceremony of the Heritage Tour Guide training program.

During the inauguration ceremony of Heritage Tourist Guides training programm, Ms. Poonam Chand, the Additional Director of the Tourism Department of Uttarakhand, along with former Health Director of Uttarakhand, the Principal of VPS School, Ms. Sangeeta, Harshil Village Head Mr. Dinesh Rawat, and Harshil Patwari Mr. M.P. Nautiyal, lit a ceremonial lamp.

It is known that the Tourism Department of Uttarakhand is planning to introduce Heritage Tours in Harshil to attract tourists and acquaint them with the heritage of this region.

This initiative will also provide employment opportunities to local youths working as heritage tour guides.

Applications were invited from individuals aged 18 to 55 from Harshil, Dharali, Mukhwa, Sukhi, and surrounding villages for heritage tour guide training, and 30 individuals were selected for the training.

Heritage Tour Guides Training Programm at Harshil

During the event, Village pradhan Dinesh Rawat expressed that Harshil and the surrounding areas have immense potential for new trek routes, bird watching, kayaking, and the Homestay scheme. He urged the Additional Director of Tourism to initiate new tourism plans in the region.

Vrinda Prasad Semwal, the Principal of Semwal School, mentioned that the children of our region will perform well as guides. Dr. Saroj, the former Health Director from Dehradun, advised the trainees that a good guide should have basic knowledge of medical assistance.

Through the Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) in Harshil, young people will receive heritage tour guide training.

Registration has been done for 30 participants in the Devprayag batch of guide training.

After the 10-day training, participants will receive a tourist guide certificate. The training will last for 10 days and will include instruction from experts on various aspects such as the presentation of heritage tourism, heritage tour guiding, behavior, communication, Uttarakhand heritage sites, and continuous and responsible tourism.

During the training, participants will also go on a tour of Gartang Gali Site and other heritage sites.

The training is being conducted in Harshil by the Dedicated Media Society. The inauguration program was conducted by Seema Sharma. Pankaj Sharma, the member of the Dedicated Media Society, was also present at the inauguration ceremony.
