Chandi Devi Temple sits atop the Neel Parvat across the Ganges river from Haridwar. Dedicated to Chandika Devi, this Siddhapeeth marks the battleground where the goddess killed demon kings Chanda and Munda, before taking a momentary rest atop the hill. The main stone idol was consecrated by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century, while the modern structure was constructed by King Suchat Singh of Kashmir in 1929. The summit affords expansive vistas over Haridwar and the meandering Ganges plain.
