Sacred Overview & Architectural Heritage

Perched over the waters of the sacred Alaknanda River at Kalyasaur, the Maa Dhari Devi Temple is revered as the supreme guardian deity (Rakshika) of Uttarakhand and protector of the Char Dham pilgrimage. According to ancient lore, the upper half of the goddess idol is venerated here at Dhari Devi, while the lower half is worshipped at Kalimath. The idol miraculously shifts appearance, resembling a girl in the dawn, an assertive young woman at midday, and an elder matron by sunset. Pilgrims traveling the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway unfailingly halt here to seek divine blessings for safe passage across the mountains.
