Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple is a natural river cave shrine situated on the banks of the Asan River in Dehradun’s Garhi Cantt. The temple owes its name to the Hindi word Tapak (dripping), as natural subterranean limestone water steadily drips down from the cavern ceiling directly onto the Shivalinga in a perennial Jalabhisheka. The cavern is revered as the ancient hermitage of Guru Dronacharya, tutor to the Pandavas and Kauravas, who performed intense tapasya here to obtain divine weaponry.
